Funeral services for Mrs. Rene Hempfling
77, widow of Charles F. Hempfling and a resident of Mt. Vernon since girlhood will be conducted in Mt. Vernon Tuesday.
Mrs. Hempfling died at 11:30 a.m. Saturday (1 Feb 1958) at Welborn Memorial Baptist Hospital in Evansville. Her brother, Hunter Streeby, who with his sister resided at 412 College avenue discovered early Friday that she had
suffered a stroke during the night in her bed. She was removed to the
hospital Friday morning.
The body was brought to The Short Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon late Sunday afternoon and will remain
there through the funeral service at 2 p.m. Tuesday in The Short chapel.
Burial will be in Bellefontaine cemetery. Richard V. Beesley, minister of First Presbyterian Church, of which
the deceased was a member, will conduct the services.
Nearest surviving relatives are the brother, Hunter; a sister,
Mrs. Harriet McGuire, Jacksonville, Fla; two nephews, Robert Dausman,
Mt. Vernon,and William Dausman
, Evansville, and a niece Mrs. Ralph Thompson, Itasca, Ill. A niece of the deceased's late husband,
Mrs. Ole J. Olsen, Evansville, also has been closely associated with Mrs. Hempfling.
Mrs. Hempfling was a native of Evansville. Her parents were J. B. Streeeby and Mada Mingst Streeby who came to Mt. Vernon when Mrs. Hempfling
was a girl. The father was for many years a mail clerk on the E & T.
H. and later the C. & E. I. Railroad. He was an ardent Democrat and
after retiring from the postal service was a Black township just of peace.
The late deceased was married twice. Her first husband was
Attorney George Wm Curtis, a Mt. Vernon lawyer and Democratic state senator.
Following his death she married Mt. Hempfling, a local butcher and meat retailer, who
died in 1951.
She was a
skilled equestrian in her younger years. At the time of her death she was
a member of the Mt. Vernon Duplicate Bridge club and the Mt. Vernon Clabber Club.
