Alex Hutchinson, 82, Black township justice-of-the peace for 11 1⁄2 years prior to resignation, deputy Black township trustee for the last three years and a local barber for 25 years, died at 8:10 p.m. Wednesday (2 Jun 1954).

His long associations with the public made him one of South Posey county's most widely known citizens.

Death came to Mr. Hutchinson at the home of G. Edward Behrens, Black township trustee, and Mrs. Behrens at 336 W. Eighth Street.

Mr. Hutchinson's wife, nee Hattie B. Klotz, a sister of Mrs. Behrens, died seven years ago and for most of the time since her demise Mr. Hutchinson had made his home with Mt. and Mrs. Behrens.

He suffered the first of two strokes on May 19, rallied somewhat only to suffer a second stroke and then gradually worsened.  His condition had been critical for several days.

The deceased was a native of Hardin county, Ill.  He came to the Prairie community west of Mt. Vernon as a boy with his parents, Ira Hutchinson and Katherine Williams Hutchinson, and remained here after his parents' departure to reside in Rockport and later in Illinois.

After attending an Evansville business college he was employed for several years, returning to Mt. Vernon where he engaged in barbering as an employee of local shops and as operator of his own shop for 25 years.  He resigned as Black township justice-of-the peace four years ago after serving for 11 1⁄2 years.

The body is at the Weisinger Funeral Home.  The funeral service will be conducted in the Weisinger chapel at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon.  Burial will be in Bellefontaine cemetery.

Rev. J. Kenneth Forbes, minister of First Methodist Church which Mr. Hutchinson regularly attended but of which he was not a member, will conduct the funeral and burial rites.

For many years the deceased had been active in Mt. Vernon lodge, No 49, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and Washington I.O.O. F. encampment, No. 19, serving the fraternity as noble grand of the lodge and district deputy.  For many years he was active in the Methodist Men's Bible class.  He was an amateur chef of considerable reputation.

Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Delman Woolard, Harrisburg, Ill; two brothes, Edward Hutchinson, Harrisburg, Ill and W. E. Huntinson, La Mesa, N. M., seven nephews, and six nieces.
