John C. Hutchinson, 72 prominent Evansville insurance agent and civic leader and a
native of Mt. Vernon, died Monday (20 Sep 1954) night in Jefferson Barracks, Mo. following a long illness.
The body will be cremated in St. Louis and the ashes will be brought to the
Smith (Robert Greek) Mortuary in Evansville. Mrs. Hutchinson, who has been
with her husband, is expected to reach her home at 724 S. E. Second street, Evansville, late today. Funeral arrangements
await her arrival there.
The deceased, a representative of two prominent Posey county families, was born
in Mt. Vernon but had resided in Evansville since 1894. He had been a patient
in the Army hospital for the last four years.
The parents of the deceased were Alexander Hutchinson and Parthenia
Conlin Hutchinson. The mother was a sister of
the late Mrs. Clyde Conlin Alexander of Mt. Vernon. The father built the resident at

E. Tenth street where Mrs. Clyde Conlin
Alexandr resided for many years. Later,
Alexander Hutchinson and his family resided at 620 Walnut street, the former Templeton home now owned by Edmond (Pat) Rhodes.
Upon the family's removal to Evansville the father and two sons, John C., the
late deceased, and Thomas, who died several years ago, established an insurance
agency which became one of the Tri-State's largest. Following the death
of his father and brother, the surviving son, operated the agency as J.C.
Hutchinson, Inc.
The late deceased was a graduate of Indiana University. He was a member of Trinity Methodist Church in Evansville and of the Evansville Country Club and Evansville lodge of the Elks. He served on
the first board of directors of the Evansville Boy Scout Council.
Surviving in addition to the wife, are a niece, Mrs. A. S. Howe, South Norwalk, Conn., Mrs Ausburn T. Stephens, Mt. Vernon, is a cousin. The late Alex
Hutchinson of Mt. Vernon, former justice - of the peace, also was
a cousin.
