PHILIP J JOURDAN

Philip J. Jourdan, a prominent Marrs township farmer who had spent his entire lifetime on the same farm which belonged to his parents prior to his ownership died at 3:30 P.M. Tuesday (29 Oct 1957).  He would have been 68 years old on the coming Dec 20.

 

Mr. Jourdan, who had been in poor health for several years with a combined thyroid and heart condition, was fatally stricken minutes after he arrived at a Mt. Vernon physicians office for consultation.

 

The deceased resided in a home erected six years ago on Ind 62 seven miles east of Mt. Vernon in Marrs township.  His lifelong occupation was that of farming and because of his failing health his son, Edwin Jourdan, had been associated with him in the last year and a half.

 

The body is at The Short Funeral Home where friends may call beginning this evening .  It will remain there until 11 a.m. Friday when it will be taken to Immanuel United Church of Christ in Marrs township of which the deceased was a devout layman and former official board member.

 

The body will lie in state at the church until Rev. Robert M. Dohn, pastor of Immanuel, conducts the funeral service at 2 p.m. Friday.  Burial will be in Immanuel cemetery.

 

Surviving are the wife, nee Mary Espenlaub whose marriage to Mr. Jourdan took place Nov 11, 1917; the son, Edwin, R. R. 1, Mt. Vernon; a daughter, Mrs. Glen Rowley, Evansville; four grandchildren; three brothers, George and henry Jourdan, Marrs township and William Jourdan, Bedford and a sister, Mrs. Philip Schreiber, R. R. 2, Mt. Vernon.  The deceased's parents were Phillip Jourdan and Caroline Boberg Jourdan.
