John R. Kuebler, 76, of Indianapolis died Saturday near Effingham, IL., enroute from St. Louis to Indianaoplis,
where he and Mrs. Kuebler had been visiting their son
and his family. His son, John R. Kuebler Jr., was
driving the car when Mr. Kuebler had a heart attack.
The son of Henry and Isabella Fisher Kuebler,
he was born in Evansville but when he was young, the family moved to Mt. Vernon where he was a resident until graduation
from Mt. Vernon High School.
He received his B.A. degree from Indiana University and for two years thereafter was on the
faculty of Butler University. He returned to IU for his M.A. degree
and then taught in the Chemistry Department at Shortridge High School for 27 years. He then became national
secretary of Alpha Chi Sigma Fraternity until 1959 when he retired. He was a
member of Trinity Evangelical Church (United Church of Christ) in Mt. Vernon. He served in the chemical warfare
service during World War 1. He was a member of the American Chemical Society
for more than 50 years, a member of American Association for the Advancement of
Science and Indiana Academy of Science. He is survived by his wife, Ethel B. Kuebler; a son, John R. Kuebler Jr.;
two granddaughters, and a niece, Mrs. Frank I. Withers, of Mt. Vernon.
The memorial service will be held at Shirley Brothers' Mortuary in
Indianapolis at 1 pm Tuesday, with interment in Washington
Park Cemetery East.
