A chronic coronary condition was fatal to Mrs. Minnie Jane McElhaney, 72, widow of Dr. Everett Quimby
McElhaney, a Mt. Vernon dentist for 30 years at her home at 610 East Fifth street at 12:15 a.m. today.
Mt. Vernon knew Mrs. Mc Elhaney
as one who had dedicated many years of her life to the patient, sympathetic
care of the aged and ill. She volunteered her services to the Mt. Vernon
Ministerial Association in 1918 during the flu epidemic to nurse the sick and
she continued her humanitarian service for 35 years.
The body is at the Weisinger Funeral
Home but no funeral arrangements have been made. (Burial
was in Bellefontaine
Cemetery.)
A daughter, Mrs. John R. Hurley, Alhambra, Calif., and her husband left Mt. Vernon for their home Sunday after a visit with
Mrs. Mc Elhaney. Efforts are being made to
locate them as they travel West by auto.
Also surviving are a daughter, Miss Ruth McElhaney,
at home; and two sisters, Mrs. Joseph E. Fenton, Lincoln, Neb and Mrs. Ruth Stephenson, Hollywood, Calif and a granddaughter, Jane Carithers, Wellesley Miss. A daughter, Mrs. Brenda McElhaney Carithers, wife of Arch
T. Carithers, died last November in Wellesley. Mr. Carithers,
an executive of Rexall Drug Co., and a former Mt. Vernon resident and his daughter, Jane, will
come to Mt. Vernon for the funeral.
Mrs. McElhaney was born in Wabash county, In., a
daughter of Rev. George W. Bundy and Nancy Jane Bundy. She was graduated
from Liberty Center High school in 1898 and in 1900 married Everett Quimby McElhaney at that time a
teacher in Wells county schools. Mr. McElhaney
was graduated from Indiana Dental College in 1904 and he and his wife located in Mt. Vernon where he practiced dentistry for 30
years. Dr. Mc Elhaney died in 1940.
The late deceased was a devout, active member of First Christian
Church and of Progress camp, Royal Neighbors of America.
She was a member
of the former Hoosier Dramatic Club which many years ago presented home-talent
plays in Mt. Vernon.
