EVELYN McKINNIES

MOUNT VERNON - Evelyn Marjorie (Searcy) McKinnies, age 82, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2006.

 

She was born on May 3, 1924, at her home in Savah, Ind., the daughter of the late Roy and Betty (James) Searcy.

 

She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, homemaker and friend to many people. Evelyn worked as a riveter at Republic Aviation during World War II and was an Avon representative for 13 years. She enjoyed her memberships at Bethesda G.B. Church and later at Mount Zion G.B. Church. She was also a member of the Oliver Community Homemakers Club. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and other types of needlework.  One of her greatest joys was having the opportunity to watch her grandchildren grow up.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Betty; her husband of 52 years, Roy Van McKinnies; a son, Danny Ray; three brothers, Everett, Alvin and Paul Searcy and a great-granddaughter, Reid Tomlinson.

 

Surviving are a daughter, Betty Ann Stierley and her husband, Arthur Jr.; a son, Van Lee "Chip" McKinnies and wife, Bonnie; a brother, Emil Searcy and his wife, Anna Marie; and a stepbrother, John Ray Sailer and his wife, Carla, all of Mount Vernon, Ind.

 

Grandchildren include Terri Koch (David), Vicki Schroeder (Orvel), Randy Stierley, and, and Ken Tomlinson (Jodie). Great-grandchildren are Christopher, Joshua, and Jennifer Koch; Patrick, Adam and Andrew Schroeder; Joshua and Morgan Steirley and Lane Tomlinson.

 

The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to Dr. James Rice, Dr. Jerry Becker, Dr. Daniel Henry and the wonderful caregivers at New Harmonie Healthcare and Mount Vernon Nursing and Rehabilitation for their loving care and concern.

 

Funeral services will be officiated by Pastor Rick Sellers and will be held at Mount Zion General Baptist Church near Oliver, Ind., at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17, 2006, with burial in Mount Zion Cemetery.

 

Friends and relatives may call at Schneider Funeral Home, 512 Main St., Mount Vernon, Ind., today from 3 to 8 p.m. and from 1:30 p.m. to service time on Sunday at the church.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to the Mount Zion G. B. Church New Building Fund.
