DR JAMES W MOSES

Dr. James W. Moses, 85, a retired veterinarian and chief of police of Mt. Vernon during the 1922-26 administration of Mayor Lemuel T. Osborn in the storm prohibition era, died at midnight last night in Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.

He entered the hospital five weeks ago from the home of his son, Dr. Myron D. Moses, 1419 South Grand avenue, Evansville, and underwent surgery for a ruptured gallbladder.

The deceased was a practicing veterinarian in Posey county for 50 years.  For 40 years he practiced and resided in Mt. Vernon.  During the 10 years prior to his retirement four years ago he was at Poseyville.

Prominent in Democratic politics, he served as a Mt. Vernon city councilman prior to his tenure as chief of police.

Dr. Moses came to Mt. Vernon from his native Yankeetown, Ind., with his wife, nee Fannie Hartley, who died in Poseyville 12 years ago.

The body of the late deceased is at the Kriekhaus Funeral Home in Evansville where Rev. Charles Zapp, Evansville, will conduct the funeral service at 2 p.m. Saturday.  Burial will be in Bates cemetery at Yankeetown.

The deceased was a member of the Christian Church at Poseyville and Modern Woodmen of America.

Surviving in addition to the won, who is a federally employed veterinarian at the Evansville Union Stockyards, are two grandchildren, two great - grandchildren and a brother John Moses, Cadillac, Mich.
