Mrs. Katie M. Murphy, 73, a resident of the rural vicinity of Mt. Vernon most of her life and the wife of Frank M. Murphy, a local farmer for man years and a Spanish-American war veteran, died at 2:15 p.m. Monday (11 Jul 1955) at her home at 2832 "C" street in Evansville.

 

The Murphys had resided in Evansville for the last three months.  Illness of several years resulted in Mts. Murphy's death.

 

The deceased was a member of Mt. Pleasant General Baptist Church at Bufkin.

 

The body is at the Short-Niehaus Funeral Home and will remain there until it is taken to Mt. Pleasant Church for the funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Thursday.  Officiating ministers will be Rev. C. E. Terrell, pastor of Mt. Pleasant, and Rev. S. D. Lemons, a former Mt. Pleasant pastor.  Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant cemetery.

 

Surviving, in addition to the husband, are a daughter, Mrs. Norton Spiller, Evansville; two sons, Lawrence Murphy, Jeffersonville, Ind., and Joseph Murphy, Harrisburg, Ill.; 12 grandchildren and two great-grand-children ; a brother, Henry Witt, Mt. Vernon, and three sisters, Mrs. John Renschler, Mrs. William Utley and Mrs. Raleigh Williams, all of Mt. Vernon.

 

Mrs. Murphy was a daughter of Joseph Witt and Christina Hufnagle Witt and was born in Vanderburgh county.
