Mrs Alice A Black, age, 86, widow of Edwin Page and a resident
of Mt. Vernon for many years, died at her home in Lindsay, Calif. Friday (26 Mar 1954) night, a niece Miss Alice Fogas, Mt. Vernon was advised during the weekend.
Mr. Page who died in Lindsay in April
1949, was a former Mt. Vernon mayor and city treasurer and Posey
Circuit Court clerk. He was a very popular Mt. Vernon leader. For many years he was
employed by the First National Bank in Mt. Vernon.
Mrs. Page had been seriously ill since January and while seemingly
improved following six weeks in a hospital, became worse two weeks ago and
since that time her condition had been critical.
For the last 22 years she had been a resident of California. Born in Paoli, Ind. the daughter of Asa
M. Black and Amanda Mc Pheeter Black, she moved
to Terre
Haute
at an early age and spent her childhood and early womanhood there. Later,
she came to Mt. Vernon to reside in the home of Mr. and Mrs.
William H. Fogas, a brother-in-law and sister.
Her marriage to Edwin Page took place Nov 2, 1897 and they celebrated their 50th wedding
anniversary in 1947 at their Lindsay home.
Mrs. Page was a member of the Lindsay Presbyterian Church.
She and Mr. Page transferred their memberships there from First
Presbyterian Church in Mt. Vernon.
A funeral service was conducted in Lindsay today following which the body accompanied by a son, Edwin E Page, will be
brought to the Short-Niehaus funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. Local funeral rites will be at 2:30 o'clock Friday afternoon. (Burial
was in Bellefontaine
Cemetery.)
Surviving in
addition to the son, are two daughters, Mrs. Sam Ward, Saybrook, Ill., and Mrs. Hadley Chapman, Glen Ellyn, Illinois and two grandchildren, Virginia Haynes
and Tom Chapman. A third daughter, Mrs. Joseph D. Haynes, is deceased.
