WILLARD O REED

 

March 5, 1957

Willard O. Reed, 37, Mt. Vernon a veteran of more than eight years' service in the U.S. Army, died March 1 in Houston, Tex., his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Willard R. Reed, 1102 North Locust street, have been advised.

 

The body will reach Short-Niehaus Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon Thursday night.  Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Friday.

 

The funeral service will be conducted in Short-Niehaus chapel at 2 p.m. Saturday with burial following in Black cemetery west of Mt. Vernon.

 

The deceased enlisted in the Army prior to the outbreak of World War II and was a Regular Army sergeant during the war.  He re-enlisted following the end of hostilities and in 1951 received an honorable medical discharge.  The war veteran had been employed in marine transportation since.

 

Surviving in addition to the parents, Willard R. Reed and Ora E. Bennett Reed, are a brother S⁄Sgt. Donald B. Reed, U.S. Air Force, who is stationed at McConnell Air Force Base near Wichita, Kan. and three sisters, Mrs. James Irwin, Mt. Vernon, Mrs. James Carr, Pasadena, Tex., and Mrs. Earl James, Evansville.
