Maurice P. Rowe, 65, whose years of friendly efficient service to
the public at the Louisville & Nashville Railroad station in Mt. Vernon endeared him to the community, died at 3:30 a.m. today in Deaconess Hospital, Evansville.
He entered the hospital from his home at 2 7 E. Tenth Street last Oct 22 and underwent surgery.
Except for a few hours at his home here following surgery during which
his condition worsened and necessitated his return to the hospital he had been
a patient in Deaconess since his entrance.
The body is at Weisinger Funeral Home
where friends may call after 7 o'clock this evening.
Rev. J. Kenneth Forbes, minister of First Methodist Church, of which the deceased was a member,
will conduct the funeral service in Weisinger chapel
at 2 p.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Bellefontaine cemetery.
Surviving are the wife, nee Mary Gill; a daughter, Mrs. Phyllis
Thompson, Mt. Vernon; two sons, Robert A. Rowe, Mt. Vernon, an employe of The Texas Company terminal, and Airman 2nd
class, Jimmie M. Rowe, Stationed at the Air Force Base at Cheyenne, Wyo; four grandchildren, and two brothers, Lester g. Rowe,
South Kortwright, N.Y. and Charles T. Rowe, Mt.
Vernon, Airman Rowe will come for his father's funeral. Mr. Rowe's death
terminated marital bonds of 40 years.
The deceased, a native of Mt. Vernon, was a representative of two pioneer
families. Both of his parents, Isaac (Al) Rowe, former Posey county
sheriff, and Otilla Prenzel
Rowe, were natives of Mt. Vernon. The Rowe family has always been
prominent in local Republican politics.
He was for 41
years an employee of the L. & N. Railroad at Mt. Vernon and for 10 years of that period was
station agent. He was the caretaker at the office of Wabash Memorial Bridge at the time he became ill and for five
years prior to his bridge employment was caretaker of Indiana Farm Bureau
Refinery recreation center.
