NEVA RUMINER

May 27, 1957

Miss Neva Ruminer, 84, whose gentle, sympathetic interest in others, a fondness of children and a devout Christian faith had endeared her to the Mt. Vernon community, passed on at her home at 432 Mulberry street at 10:20 p.m. Saturday (25 May 1957).

She had an active career in business in Mt. Vernon prior to her retirement.  She was a bookkeeper employed consecutively by the Edwin Wade Insurance Agency, the Mt. Vernon Light & Power co., and for many years the Home Mill & Grain Co.

Miss Ruminer was a life-long Posey county resident of pioneer heritage.  Her parents were John Ruminer and Gelania Williams Ruminer, of Marrs township, where the late deceased was born.

She and her family had occupied the residence of 432 Mulberry street for 65 years.

She was one of the original members of the present Mt. Vernon Christian Science Society, the second reader of the church for a number of years and until a year ago its treasurer.  Her other affiliations were with General Thomas Posey chapter of Daughters of American Revolution and the Mt. Vernon Coterie, which her sister, Mrs. Walter W. French, organized.

The body is at Short-Niehaus Funeral Home and will remain there through the funeral service at 2:30 p.m. tuesday in Short-Niehaus chapel.  Ernest McBride, former first reader of First church of Christ, Scientist, Evansville, will conduct the service.  Burial will be in Bellefontaine cemetery.

Survivors are two sisters, Miss Ina Ruminer, Mt. Vernon, a retired school teacher, and Mrs. Walter W. French, Overland, Mo., who has been in Mt. Vernon for the last 18 months; a niece, Mrs. Paul W. Cook, Evanston, Ill., and three nephews, Ralph French, Overland, Mo., William R Ruminer, LaGrange, Ill., and Charles R. Ruminer, Indianapolis.  A brother, William J. Ruminer, and a nephew, Paul R. French are deceased.
