WILLIAM J SCHNACK

Funreal services  were conducted this afternoon in the short-Niehaus Funeral Home chapel and at the grave in Bellefontaine cemetery for Willliam J. Schnack, 77, retired who died at
3:45 p.m. Saturday (16 Oct 1954) at his home at 817 W. Third St.

Rev. August E. Binder, past of Trinity Evangelical and Reformed Church, was the officiating minister.  Pallbearers were Ralph Rowe, Clarence Noelle, William O. Simpson, Ernest Wolf, George H. Stephan and Merrill Harp.

Mr. Schnack a life-long resident of the
Mt. Vernon community, had been in poor health for several yers as the result of a complication of diseases.  He had been acutely ill, however for only a few days.

Born on the Schnack homestead three miles northwest of
Mt. Vernon, a son of Fritz Schnack, the deceased engaged in farming as a young man and for 40 years was an employe of the Busy Corner Grocery of the late Fred P. Dietz, his brother in law.  He was a member of the Mt. Vernon police force during the administration of Mayor John H. Moeller and was an ardent, active Republican during his entire life.  He was formerly a member of Posey aerie. No. 1717, Fraternal Order of Eagles.

Surviving are two sons, William, E. Mt. Vernon, a deputy Posey county surveyor, and Harold I; Mt. Vernon an employe of International Harvester Co., in Evansville, a brother, Carl E. Schnack, Mt. Vernon and three sisters, Mrs. Anna Dietz, Mrs. Herman Hellenberg and Miss Marie Schnack, of Mt. Vernon and vicinity.

The wife of the late deceased, nee Louisa Cramer, died in 1946.
