REV. EDWARD F SCHNEIDER

Rev. Edward F. Schneider, 76, a Methodist minister in Indiana for a half century and pastor of First Methodist Church in Mt. Vernon from 1919 to 1923 died Sunday (27 Sep 1953) in the Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

 

He retired in 1950 and since tht time had resided with a daughter, Mrs. Harrell Young, the former Gertrude Schneider, at 430 Clifton avenue, Bloomington.  His health had failed in recent years.

 

Funeral and burial services will be conducted Tuesday at Bloomington.  The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. in Fairview Methodist Church at Bloomington, which was erected during his pastorate of Fairview from 1923 to 1929.

 

Mrs. Schneider, the wife, died several years ago.

 

Surviving in addition to the daughter in Bloomington are a son, Dr. Carl Schneider, an Indianapolis physician and surgeon and three married daughters, Sylvia, Cora and Kathryn all of Indiannapolis.

 

Rev. Schneider was superintendent of the Vincennes district of the Indiana Methodist conference from 1934 to 1940.  He entered the ministry as a trial minister of the Central German conference in 1901 and became a full accredited minister in 1903.  He transferred to the Indiana Methodist conference in 1907.  Pastoral assignments and their inception dates of his long successful ministry were as follows; White Creeik, 1901; Jeffersonville, 1904; Sellersburg, 1907; Brownstown, 1909; Hope, 1913; DePauw Memorial at New Albany, 1916; Mt. Vernon, 1919; Fairview in Bloomington, 1923; Indianapolis East Tenth, 1929; Vincennes district superintendency, 1934; Greensburg, 1940; Indianapolis Bellaire, 1946, and Connersville Grand Avenue, 1948.
