LOWELL D SMITH

Lowell D. Smith, 76, a Posey county farmer for many years but in more recent years a resident of Shawneetown, Ill., died late last night in a hospital in Elkhart, Ind.

 

He came to Mt. Vernon two weeks ago from a hospital in Eldorado, Ill, where he had been a patient and a few days late accompanied his son, Charles C. Smith, Elkhart, to the North Indiana city where he entered a hospital shortly after arrival.

 

The deceased was an ardent Democrat.  His church affiliation was with Mt. Vernon General Baptist Church.

 

The body will be brought to Weisinger Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon where friends may call after 7 p.m. Sunday.

 

Rev. Temas Taylor, pastor of Mt. Vernon General Baptist Church, will conduct the funeral service at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the church.  Burial will be in Beech Grove cemetery in West Lynn township.

 

Surviving are the wife, Mrs. Gertrude Smith, Mt. Vernon; two sons, Charles C. Smith, Elkhart, and Carol Horace Smith, Mt. Vernon; two daughter, Mrs. Clarence Crooks, Mt. Vernon, and Mrs. June Carroll, Hollywood, Calif; 10 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Ella Gann, New Haven, Ill.

 

The wife, the daughter, Mrs. Crooks, and the son, Carol Horace Smith, were called from Mt. Vernon to their husband's and father's beside this week.
