Mechanic Victim of Rare Ailment
Frank Stevens, Jr., 29, Farmersville, a mechanic employed at the Indiana Farm Bureau Co-op refinery at Mt. Vernon succumbed to a rare ailment at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville at 1:15 a.m. Sunday (11 Apr 1954).

He underwent surgery, Thursday.  A post-mortem examination revealed death to be the result of membranous and granular colitis and a gangrenous infection of the lower bowel.

Mr. Stevens a member of a prominent South Posey county family and life-long resident of Mt. Vernon and vicinity had been in failing health for some time.  He became acutely ill 10 days ago while serving as a pallbearer at the funeral of his grandfather, Richard Stevens, Sr.  The deceased was a son of Frank Stevens and Sylvia Heath Stevens.  The father is deceased.

The body is at the Weisinger Funeral Home and will remain there through the funeral service at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Weisinger chapel.  Officiating clergymen will be Rev. Arthur C. Blackburn, retired Posey county General Baptist minister, and Rev. Ralph E. Miller, minister of First Evangelical United Brethren Church.  Burial will be in Bellefontaine cemetery.

Surviving are the wife, nee Betty Derrington, a son Allen Dale Stevens, 6; a daughter Songa Trellis Stevens 2; the mother, two brothers, Lloyd A Stevens, R. R. 3 and Robert Lee Stevens, Parson, Kansas  and three sisters, Mrs. David lL. Jones and Mrs. John Robert Dewar R. R. 3 and Mrs. Marion Ray Zink, Mt. Vernon.

The deceased saw Army service in World War II and was a member of Owen Dunn post No. 3, American Legion.
