ERNEST A SWINERTON

Ernest A. Swinerton, 84, a native and for most of his life a well-known resident of Mt. Vernon, died early Friday (6 Nov 1953) in Tampa, Fla where he had resided for a number of years.

 

He was a member of an early local family and was born in the 700 block on Main street in the residence that was later the John E. Bates home for many years.

 

The deceased had an enviable reputation as a local handicraftsman and his skill covered the fields of upholstery, woodworking, leathercraft and others.

 

For many years he was stage manager of the Old Masonic Opera House in Mt. Vernon and he was an early Mt. Vernon National Guardsman.

 

The body will reach the Short Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon early Sunday and may be viewed by friends at the Short chapel Sunday afternoon.  Rev. August E. Binder, pastor of the Trinity Evangelical and Reformed church will conduct the funeral service at 2 p.m. Monday in the Short chapel.  Burial will be in Bellefontaine cemetery.

 

Surviving is a daughter, Sibyl, wife of Rudolph W. Schaefer, Evansville, who was born to the union of Mr. Swinerton and Victoria Erwin Swinerton, who died in 1916.
