JOHN H TENISON

John H. Tenison, 86, scion of a prominent Posey county family and a retired Center township farmer, died at 7:55 a.m. today in Newton Rest Home in Evansville where he had resided for the last two years.

 

He was a former trustee and assessor of Center township and a leader for many years in Posey county Democratic politics.

 

His fatal illness extended over a period of six months and he had been critically ill for the last three weeks.

 

The body has been brought to Short-Niehaus Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon and it will remain there through the funeral service at 2 p.m. Friday in Short-Niehaus chapel.  Rev. Arthur C. Blackburn, a retired General Baptist preacher and a long time friend of the deceased, will conduct the service.  Burial will be in Mt. Zion cemetery north of Oliver station.

 

Mr. Tenison was a native of Posey county.  His parents were Marion Tenison and Mary Gwaltney Tenison.

 

The deceased's wife, nee Susie Lurst, died in 1941.

 

Surviving are four sons, Earl Tenison, Evansville, Laslie Tenison, R. r. 1, Mt. Vernon, and Noble Tenison, Downey, Calif; a daughter Mrs. Eldred D. Hayes, Evansville; 11 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren, and a brother, Charles F. Tenison, R. R. 4 Mt. Vernon.
