LEWIS A UTLEY

Lewis A. Utley, 77, Princeton, Ind., a retired U.S. postal employee and a member of a prominent family of Posey county where he spent the early years of his life, died Monday (25 Feb 1957) in the Gibson County General Hospital at Princeton after a short illness.

 

The body will remain at Wright & Kendall Funeral Home in Princeton until it is brought to Mt. Pleasant General Baptist church at Bufkin for the funeral service at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.  Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant cemetery.

 

Surviving are the wife, nee Anna F. Treat of Posey county; a son, E. B. Utley, owner of Utley's Hardware Store in Princeton; three daughters, Mrs. William J. Gavin, Jeffersonville, and Mrs. Louis Siepper and Mrs. Owen Sharp, both of San Diego, Calif; 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren and three brothers, Charles J. Lawrence J and Walter L. Utley all of the Mt. Vernon community.

 

The deceased parents were Carroll Utley and Sarah Trafford Utley.

 

Mt. Utley was at one time a school teacher and resided and taught in Point township for several years.  Upon entering the postal service he was stationed at post offices in Evansville until his retirement when he moved to Evansville.
