SYLVANUS F UTLEY

Sylvanus F. Utley, 63, a native of the Mt. Vernon community and a public school teacher for many years, died this week in New York state, relatives here have been informed.

 

The deceased was a son of Allen P. Utley and Emma Rupert Utley, both deceased, and was born and reared at Farmersville.  Following graduation from Mt. Vernon High School, he attended Indiana State Teachers College and Indiana University, graduating from the latter school in 1924.

 

He taught school for several years in Black township, Posey county, but for the last 30 years was a teacher in Mt. Vernon NY.

 

The body is at Jenks Funeral Parlor at Bronxville, N.Y. and the funeral service will be conducted at 1:45 p.m. Friday.  At a later date, ashes of the deceased will be returned to Posey county.

 

Surviving are the wife, Robertine Wilson Utley; a son Robert; a daughter, Janice; one granddaughter, and five nephews, Allen Davis and Burchard Elllis, Mt. Vernon, Ind., Hugh Davis, and Fred Davis, South Bend, and Eugene King, Chicago. The late Mrs. Nettie Butler, Mt. Vernon, was a sister of the deceased.
