HERMAN WALLACE

At ten day illness of pneumonia from which he was believed to be recovering but which was accompanied last night by a heart attack resulted in the death of Herman J Wallace, 72, prominent Bufkin community farmer, at 1:40 a.m. today at his home on R.R.3.

 

Few South Posey county residents had a larger or more favorable acquaintance in addition to his farm operations which for many years included poultry raising.  Mr. Wallace was a substitute rural mail carrier of the Mt. Vernon post office for 30 years and an Evansville Courier & Press-Mt. Vernon Democrat circulation agent.

 

He was an active Republican in county and township politics.  His duties as a mail carrier and newspaper subscription taker had taken him into hundreds of local homes.  His genial disposition and his solid integrity had won him a legion of friends.

 

He was a life-long resident of South Posey county.  His parents, representatives of pioneer local families, were Joshua Wallace, a Civil War veteran, and Caroline Pritchard Wallace.

 

The body is at Short Niehaus Funeral Home where friends may call beginning this evening.  The funeral service will be at 2 p.m .Friday in Short-Niehaus chapel with burial following in Mt. Pleasant cemetery at Bufkin.
