DEATH COMES TO HERMAN WALTER

Herman T. Walter, 58 a disabled veteran of World War I and a prominent Western Black township farmer, died at 2:25 a.m. today at the Veterans Hospital in Marion, Ill.

 

The body was en route to the Short Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon this morning. Funeral arrangements will be completed after its arrival here.

 

Friends are invited to call at the Short Funeral Home afternoon Sunday.

 

Mr. Walter was wounded on the Belgian front in the First World War and never fully recovered. He was awarded the Purple Heart by the United State government.

 

He entered the Marion hospital Tuesday night following a cerebral hemorrhage suffered at his home.

 

Surviving are the wife, nee Edna Trousdale, whose marriage to Mr. Walter took place 26 years ago; a daughter Catherine Ann, a secretary in the office of Farm Bureau Oil Company, and two sisters, Mrs. Fred T. Moore and Mrs. Charles Schisler borh of the Mt. Vernon vicinity.

 

The deceased was prominent in Republican politics and veterans affairs and at the time of his death was a member of the bi-partisan Posey County Alcoholic Beverage Board. He was a member of Owen Dunn post No. 5, American Legion and a past commander of Mt. Vernon post, No. 3258, Veterans of Foreign Wars.

 

Mr. Walter was a life-long resident of the Mt. Vernon community. He was the son of Harman Walter and Catherine Williams Walter, members of two early South Posey county families. His church affiliation was with First Methodist Church in Mt. Vernon.
