Funeral services were conducted in Terre Haute, yesterday for Marcus L. Wayland, 69, of 1607 1⁄2 Eighth avenue, Terre Haute, a Mt. Vernon resident for many years and a disabled World War I veteran.

Mr. Wayland, who 2 1⁄2 months ago was transferred from the Veteran Administration Hospital in Indianapolis to Wallace Nursing Home in Terre Haute, died Saturday (15 Jun 1957) in the nursing home.

He left Mt. Vernon five years ago for residence in Terre Haute.  He was a former member of Owen Dunn post no. 5, American Legion, and Mt. Vernon post, Veterans of Foreign Wars.

The funeral service was conducted yesterday morning at Cross Funeral Home in Terre Haute with burial following in Mt. Pleasant cemetery near Terre Haute.  Rev. Naomi Kenner, Terre Haute, conducted the services.

Surviving are the wife, Eura Ausley Wayland, a former Mt. Vernon resident; a son, Leo Wayland, Terre Haute, who recently was separated from Army service; three daughters, Mrs. Zella Kohlbrecher, Mrs. Jean Huffman and Mrs. Joan Lee Reed, all of Terre Haute; the mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. Matthew Thomas, Mt. Vernon; two grandchildren, and one great-grandchild; a half-brother and two half-sisters, Mrs. Elmer Deuser, Mr. Vernon, and Mrs. George Jackson, Webster Groves, Mo.

Attending the funeral services from Mt. Vernon were Mt. and Mrs. Matthew Thomas, Mr. and Mrs. Will K. Thomas, Mt. and Mrs. Deuser and granddaughter, Dianne Hansler, and Mrs. Jackson, a visitor here from Webster Groves.

The deceased was born in Kingman, Mo.  His deceased father was Leo A. Wayland.

For a number of years the late deceased was a Pennsylvania Railroad employee in Terre Haute.
