SAMUEL WEST

Samuel West, 87, a native of Enfield, Ill., but a well-known resident of Mt. Vernon and vicinity, since childhood, died at 11:20 p.m. Sunday (16 Jan 1957) at his home at 435 W. Eighth st.

 

He was a farmer and also a railroad maintenance worker for many years.  He had been ill for the last year and seriously ill for six years.  He was a member of the General Baptist church.

 

The body is at the Short-Niehaus Funeral Home and will remain there through the funeral service set for 2 p.m. Wednesday in the short-Niehaus chapel.  Burial will be in Black cemetery west of Mt. Vernon.  The officiating clergyman will be Rev. Arthur C. Blackburn a native General Baptist Minister.

 

The deceased wife, Viola Walker West died in 1939.

 

Surviving him are seven daughters, Mrs. Dorris Cartwright, Wadesville, Mrs. Esco Redman and Mrs. Ora Hust,, Mt. Vernon, Mrs. C. D. Erwin, Chicago, Mrs. Lloyd E. Coffman, Roodhouse, Ill., Mrs. Tosh Tillotson, Brisco, Mo and Mrs. E. B. Burlison, Lawrenceburg Ind; 19 grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren.

 

Mr. West's parents were Jacob West and Pamela Duckworth West.
