E.C. Alamayer left his home in Madison,Wis. last Tuesday to be gone two or three weeks. *** John Behins, of Cass, boasts of having a mare 30 years old which has raised 18 colts. Old Cass is head, who is next? *** Elmer Williams and James Mattox started last Monday for Nebraska. They went direct to Lincoln and then they will take in the country before returning. *** Charles Harshman is learning telegraphy at this place. *** Frank Hunt, of North Judson, Sundayed with friends and relatives here. Frank is looking well and says there can't be no mistake about Cleveland's election this fall. *** On the night of the 19th of this month some parties destroyed Mr. Rose's watermelon patch. *** Walt Nicols Sundayed with his father and brothers here last Sabbath. *** Lida Leader is home from Chicago. *** Born to Mr. and Mrs. Artha Williamson a boy Sept. 20th. *** The republicans think that cheap whiskey catches the ignorant democratic vote. But they are mistaken, it don't work that way. *** Hugo Everts is at home again after an absence of a few weeks. Hugo is a sound democrat and is ready to defend the party and refute the stories put forth by the republicans. *** John C. Nye was on our streets last Tuesday on business. *** Miss Bailey, of Bellegrove, Ind. is getting up a class in painting and is the guest of Miss Ida Tilton. *** Give Tunis Stout a call when you want first-class shave. Mr. Stout is trying to make a living and as he is a cripple and is willing to help himself all ought to encourage him by thier patronage. *** Don't delay too long about giving W.H. Smith an order for nursey stock as it will soon be late for fall planting. *** Mr. H.E. Taylor, of Winamc, has leased W.H.H. Smith's picture gallery and will be found at his post making photographs, tin types,etc. at greatly reduced prices. Give him a call. *** J.D. Odel and Dr. W.H. Thompson will address the Cleveland club at this place Saturday night Oct. 06. There will be a torch light procession, &c. All democrats and others that favor a reduction of the war taxes are cordially invited to participate. |

Dr.W.H. Thompson gave us a short talk last Saturday night after Mr. Odell, but owing to the lateness of the hour the Doctor made his remarks short. The Doctor will poll a large vote on the west side. *** James Kline, accompanied Dr. Thompson to the west side Saturday. He was at the meeting at night and was well entertained. Mr. Kline thinks that there never was a time when democratic victory was so positive as at the present time. *** James Dunn , of Rich Grove, who has been sick so long, is worse at the present writing. *** We noticed our friend, Michael Boyle, Jr., candidate for surveyor, on our streets Saturday. He also stayed for the night meeting. Mr. B. is wide awake and will be found working for the good of the party. *** Joe Vurpillat was looking after his fences on the west side last week. *** J.S. Recker and John Pruitt, of Francesville, attended the meeting Saturday night at this place. *** Our west siders are talking of attending the demostration at Winamac on the occassion of the Hon. Daniel Voorhees' visit on the 23rd. *** John Shultz at this writing is hunting a democrat to go on his bond $500. What is the matter of this new republican? *** Call on Harr]y Taylor for good pictures at W.H.H. Smith's old stand. Great reduction in prices. *** Quite an epedemic among the horses in Gillam township, Jasper County. Mrs. Mime Robinson has up to the present time lost four head of work horses within a few days. They called a veterinary surgeon and he pronounced the disease a fever caused by something they had eaten, which made them stiff in the hind limbs. So far as we can learn no other animals are taken with the disease. *** George Wayne of Cass township, brought his large squashes to town last Saturday to weigh them. He brought two; one weighed 145, teh other 114. *** Boyer, the murderer of his cell mate at Peru last summer, who was tried at Monticello lately and sentenced to the penitentiary for life, passed through here in company of Qualls, who goes for five years for highway robbery. They were in charge of Sheriff Henderson and H. Van Vorst. *** George Reddick and wife, of Winamac, spent last Saturday and part of Sunday with friends here. George took in the speech of Mr. Odell. *** Reinhart, of Jasper County, shipped two car loads of fat cattle from this place last Saturday morning to Buffalo via the Nickle Plate R.R. The same road car loads for Buffalo from Francesville. *** We were well entertained last Saturday night with the speech of the Hon. J.C. Odell, of Delphi. He spoke near two hours and helf the audience throughout. Mr. Odell explained things so plain that even the republicans understood. |

Medaryville The M.E. Church is being papered and cleaned, which will add to the appearence very much. *** Quite a number of our citizens attended the grand democratic rally at Lafayette Saturday to hear Gov. Hill of New York, and in spite of the bad weather it was a grand affair, and the crowd was immense. *** Miss Gusa Maibuar returned to Monon today. *** Mr. Gus Middlestate, of Monon, was on our streets shaking hand with old friends. *** Miss Vangie Frederick has opened a milinery shop adjoining the store. *** Remember that the Hon. D.W. Voorhees speaks at Winamac on the 23d. Let all turn out and take a holiday and hear one of the speeches that will be a thing to remember with pride in the campaign of 1888. *** Boys, be like the little girl when she said, burrah for Cleveland, he's the man; I can't vote but popa can. *** John Walden lost a fine cow Saturday night on the railroad, killed by a south bound freight. It caused quite a wreck, ditching the coal tender. *** W.H.H. Smith, the nursery man, will deliver his stock of trees at Medaryville, Oct. 25; at Francesville Oct. 27; at Wheatfield Oct. 29, and at North Judson Oct. 31. All those who wish anything in that line will please call at any of the above places on date named, as he will have an extra lot of stuff to dispose of. *** Moses Pruitt has bought the Critchlow property on the west side of town and will move into the same spring. *** Mrs. Manning will move to town and live in part of Mrs. Long's bouse. *** Misses Eva and Sadie Horner were visiting in Chicago last week. *** Mrs. James Farnsley and son, Bertie, are visiting her parents in Harrison County, this state. *** Valentine Zimmerman spoke at the McCay school house on Thursday at 3 o'clock to a crowded house. *** On Thursday evening we had the pleasure of hearing Mr. Zimmerman speak in English and German, and it was one of the best speeches of the campaign. He held a large audience till a late hour without a murmur. He was followed by Dr. Hattery, of Logansport, with a few well chosen remarks. |
