Margaret A. Johnston vs. John T Johnston is the title of a divorce case filed in the Putnam Circuit Court. The plaintiff alleges that she and defendant were married Oct 6, 1894 but that on account of the previous evil motives of the defendant they did not live and cohabit together afterwards; that the defendant married the plaintiff to avoid prosecution for seduction and bastardy and that he immediately deserted her; that she was critically ill for weeks after child was born and that he offered no assistance but went to live with his mother near Oakalla.  The plaintiff asks that her maiden name of Margaret Rule be restored to her and all relief given in the premises.
