Source: Greencastle Herald 30 Aug 1920 – p1

Angered because a request had been made by Fred Goodwine that he pay the damage to Mr. Goodwine’s (sic) car which was badly damaged in a collision with the Jack Huffman car on a sharp turn, 2 miles south of Manhattan Saturday evening. Mr. Huffman it is said attacked Mr. Goodwine scratching his face and then getting a club out of his car, started to attach Goodwine with a club. Mrs. Huffman and her daughter it is said finally persuaded her husband to get in the car and drive away. The accident occurred at near 5 o’clock. Mr. Goodwine together with Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Graham and son were returning to Greencastle from south of Manhattan while Mr. Huffman, accompanied by his daughter and wife were on their way home. The cars met in collision in a turn and Goodwine’s car was badly damaged. One fender was torn off, the running board torn off, several holes were cut in the side of the body of the car and other damage done. According to Mr. Goodwine and Mr. Graham, Huffman stopped his car and all of the men talked about the accident. Finally Mr. Goodwine told Mr. Huffman that he thought Mr. Huffman out to help pay for the damage to his (Goodwine’s) car. Goodwine and Mr. Graham say that although the accident was unavoidable, that Mr. Huffman was driving fast while Goodwine’s car was barely moving and that the blame, if there was any, was on the part of Mr. Huffman. When Goodwine suggested that Huffman pay part of the damage, Huffman it is said, attacked Goodwine scratching his face. Then he went to his car and got a club and started toward Goodwine.  Mr. Huffman and Miss Huffman it is said then persuaded Huffman to get into his car and drive on home. This morning Mr. Huffman who was in Greencastle said that the accident was unavoidable and that Goodwine had demanded that he pay the damage on the Goodwine car. He said it was when Goodwine threatened to force him to pay the damage that he got a club out of his car. Mr. Goodwine, it is said will file two charges against Mr. Huffman, one charging assault.
