Cloverdale, a pretty town a few miles south of Crawfordsville on the Monon Railroad is greatly worked up over  the strange disappearance of pretty Maggie Haddan.

Five weeks ago, Maggie Haddan, 21 years old, whose parents reside on a farm near Cloverdale, Ind, left home and went to Indianapolis for the purpose of entering Dr. Eastman’s sanitarium to be treated for injuries received in a fall.  She went direct to the sanitarium, but at the time, Dr. Eastman was out of the city. After he returned she called at the sanitarium a number of times and then stopped.  She failed to communicate with her relatives and her brother went to look for her. Then he asked assistance of the police.

At the time Miss Haddan left her home she had about $250 in her possession and her brother fears she has been foully dealt with. He called at the sanitarium and was informed that his sister was stopping with a Mrs. Adams.  He was given her street number and hurried to the house only to find that Mrs. Adams had moved.  A neighbor woman, who seemed to be well acquainted with Mrs. Adams said that he was positive that no young woman had been stopping there.  The brother then went to the police station, where he told the story.  He said his sister had received a fairly good education and was mentally bright. She never appeared to be dissatisfied with her home and as far as he knew had no reason for going away.  After arrival at Indianapolis his mother received two letters from her, the last requesting that her clothing be sent.  She gave no address and the relatives waited for another letter before sending the clothing.  Failing to receive it, they became alarmed and the brother went to look for her.   --- transcribed by kbz
