HICE, Edward - steals - nope

Source: Greencastle Star Press, 23 Feb 1895 p 1

A special from Muncie dated Feb 16 says: Edward Hice, a collector for union No 25 of the American Federation Glass workers is missing as is $140 of the lodge funds. The young man is but 18 years of age and lost the money gambling.  He was employed at the Hemingray Glass works and the union offers to give him a chance to make good the loss as best he can if he will return; otherwise he will be run down and prosecuted. His father, Smith Hice came to Muncie from Greencastle and the young man’s action is a great surprise. Later advices are to the effect that the charge against Edward Hice is groundless and utterly false. He had simploy gone to Indianapolis on a visit and when he returned he explained the situation and paid over the funds he had collected to the treasurer of the Union.
