Perkins, William - 70

Source: Greencastle Banner 21 May 1885 p 5

The venerable William Perkins was induced to celebrate his 70th birthday by going a fishing yesterday morning with his nephew, Ed Perkins. When they returned they found the house full of his children – Ira and George and Mrs. Mary Shonkwiler of Benton County; Mrs. Lydia Goodley of Missouri; Mrs. Hannah Anderson of Owen County; William Jr, Elam and Oran of this county and 8 grandchildren and one great grandchild with several other relatives and friends. It was the greatest surprise of his life and it was sometime before he could realize what it all meant and that indeed, every one of his living children were present.  After a sumptuous dinner which had been slyly prepared for the occasion, the party went to a photograph gallery and sat for a family picture. The rest of the day was spent in various pleasant ways, the general wish being that both Mr. and Mrs. Perkins might enjoy many more years of happy life in which we heartily join! - kbz
