Marion, Ind Nov 18 – The 35th annual state convention of the Young Men’s Christian Association is in session here. The report of the state executive committee shows a wonderful growth of the organization in the state during the year just ended. The first local association was established in Indianapolis in 1854. The late Benjamin Harrison was the first president of the association which was also his first office as president of any society.

The first state convention was held in Greencastle in 1869. During the last 10 years the number of associations had doubled in the state. The membership has increased from 4,000 to 8,000 in 10 years. The relative gain in Indiana during the year was greater than in the entire country. The increase in buildings in Indiana in 10 years was from $200,000 to more than $400,000.
