I am Angela Frances Todd ("Angie").
Mrs. Ellen Loop Bratton, wife of Charles M. Bratton, passed away May 11 at their home, Woodlawn place, this city. Mrs. Bratton was well known throughout the county, having been born near Mace and lived there all of her life with the exception of the last four years which were spent in Crawfordsville. She was the daughter of Andrew and Lydia Loop of Mace and of this family four brothers and one brother [sic..must mean sister] are living. Those who knew Mrs. Bratton in girlhood will remember has as a bright and happy young woman and a social leader and loved by all. She was married to Charles M. Bratton on Janurary 30, 1878. To this union were born four children, Herman, Wheat, Inez and Rosco, who with their father and four grandchildren are left to mourn their loss. About twenty years ago she was stricken with a severe illness. All that loving hands could do was done for her. A trip thru the south gave temporary relief to her physical and mental condition, but no permanent cure was found. She united with the Methodist church at Mace in early girlhood. Later she transferred her membership to the Union Presbyterian church with her husband. She was a true Christian woman. She was ever ready to lend a helping hand to friends and neighbors. She went far and wide to minister to the sick, and her sudden death has caused sorrow everywhere. Wednesday, May 13, funeral services were held in the Crawfordsville home at one. The house was filled with neighbors and friends. Mrs. Bruce Haines sang two lovely solos. Rev. G. L. Stine and Rev. L. S. Smith offered the consolations of the word of God and prayer. At two-thirty the same ministers conducted services in the Mace Methodist church and a quartet of friends rendered appropriate hymns. The interment was made in the Knights of Pythias Cemetery at Mace.
