The Indiana Soldier's and Seaman's home was founded in 1865.

The home was located about 2 miles south of Knightstown.

In 1887 the name was changed to Indiana Soldier's Orphans Home.

The facility was named Indiana Soldier's & Sailor's Children's Home in 1929.
