Mary Estella Hutchens
----------
There are some flowers so fragrant that after they have been taken from a room a sweet perfume lingers. There are some lives so sweetly lived that after they are taken from this world the fragrant perfume of memories remains long with us.
Such was the life of the one before us today, a busy life, a life of sweet unselfish service to others.
Mary Estella Catey, daughter of Samuel and Letita Catey, was born June 11, 1872, on a farm in Randolph county. Her father died when she was only seven months old and her mother took her and her little sister and after moving from place to place settled on the old home farm near No. 11 school house. Most of her schooling was received at that school altho she had two years of high school at Newcastle.
She was converted when a girl and lived true to her Christ until the end of life. She was married October 28, 1893 to P. W. Hutchens, to this union was born eight children, three little ones preceding her to the heavenly land. Her last illness was long and her suffering great but on the morning of June 9, 1929, a quiet Sabbath morning she left, and awakened in the land of her desire that beautiful land, the home of the soul.
She leaves a husband, two sons, three daughters, a dear sister, and many other relatives and a host of friends. She would not have us sorrowful and weeping. But Oh, she'd have us prepare that we may meet her in that land of blessed promise and walk with her beside the crystal sea, for it isn't very far to God, for just beyond the stream of time and earth here there lies the land, the land by Angles trod.
The funeral was held at Union Chapel, June 11th at 2:00 o'clock, conducted by the pastor, Rev M. D. James, assisted by the Rev. Lee Chamness, buried at Economy.

William Rodger, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hutchens, was born April 19, 1924, and lived with us ten days, slipping away April 29, 1924.
This little life came as a precious jewel, and then was lost to our sight, but its brilliancy will hold our vision until we again look upon him in the Kingdom of our Father, where he shines as "The Star of the morning".
These cherubs come into our midst, grip us, and fill us with love and cheer, then are so quickly gone.  Our hearts are heavy and empty, but their passing is a link that binds us to God and home.
He is not dead, the child of our affections, but gone to that school where he no longer needs our protection, and Christ, Himself doth rule.
A father, mother, two brothers, Jean and Sheldon survive.
Funeral services were held in the home on East Street Thursday, May 1st, at 10:00 o'clock a. m., conducted by Rev. A. M. Addington,  The remains were laid to rest in Woodlawn cemetery.
