In Memorium – MEEKS, Elizabeth, daughter of John and Eliza Craig, was born in Fayette county, Ohio October 24, 1834 and departed this life July 22, 1888.
The deceased removed with her parents to Randolph county, Ind., in the fall of 1845. She joined the M. E. church at the age of about sixteen years, and was converted a christian about thirty years ago, and lived a consistent christian life until her death.
She was married to Thomas Meeks June 5, 1851, who preceded her to that happy land above nearly nine years ago, having died August 14, 1879. To this couple were born six children – one son and five daughters, four of whom, one son and three daughters, survive to mourn the loss of their beloved mother.
During her late protracted illness she often expressed to friends her full confidence in a happy future after death, and a desire to meet her husband and two children who had preceded her. She died surrounded by her aged father and mother, an only remaining sister, all of her children and many friends, all of whom she took by the hand and bade them good-bye, with the request that all should meet her in heaven.
The funeral took place at Mt. Pleasant M. E. church, and was conducted by Rev. J. R. Cook, assisted by Rev. C. E. White. The deceased and her family had many friends who came from far and near to take a last look at the remains and witness the depositing of same in the silent tomb in the cemetery by the church.
We are requested by the children of the deceased to tender their sincere thanks to the many kind and faithful friends who were ever ready and willing to assist in caring for their dear mother during her five month's sickness, and who did so much to cheer and comfort her in her last hours on earth.
