UNION  CITY
WOMAN  KILLED
IN  AUTO  CRASH

        Union City, Ind., Dec. 17 -- Mrs. Pauline Shepherd, 38, of 520 North Plum street, was instantly killed at 1 o'clock this morning when the car in which she was a passenger struck a ridge abutment and overturned three miles south of Fort Recovery, O.
        Depute Sheriffs E. P. Pequignot  and  James Irvin of Darke County, O., said the crash resulted when  Paul Hines, 23, of 604 North Plum street lost control of the auto.  Hines, suffering from broken ribs, was reported in "good" condition at the Union City Hospital tonight.
        A third person in the car, Richard Arnold, 28, of 224 North Howard street, was not hurt.
Husband Also Killed
   
     The depute sheriffs said the trio was on the was from Union City to Fort Recovery when the accident occurred.  The auto was demolished.  Mrs. Shepherd was pined beneath it and it took some time to extricate her body, but rescuers said they though she died instantly.
        Her husband, William Elwood Shepherd, was killed in another auto crash 17 months ago, northwest of Union City on the New Lisbon road.  Se was seriously injured at that time.
        A native of Union City, Mrs. Shepherd had spent her whole life here.  She was a member of the First Methodist Church.
        Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 o'clock Monday afternoon at the Fraze funeral home by the Rev. Ralph B. Ditmyer.  Burial will be in Palestine Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home.
