Pauline Smith
----------
          Pauline A. Smith, 92, West High Street, Redkey, died Wednesday in the Jay County Hospital. Born in Shedville on Dec. 25, 1911, to Melvin and Flossie (Nicholson) Ullom, she married Cassius Ty Smith on Oct. 21, 1933. He died in 1993. She attended the Green School, was a homemaker and lived most of her life in Powers.
          Survivors include two sons, Darrell L. Smith, Redkey, and Jay E. Smith, Union City; three grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several great-great-stepgrandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
          Services are Saturday at 2 p.m. at Redkey Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Phil Dorries officiating. Burial will be in the Hopewell Cemetery, north of Farmland. Visitation is Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at M.J.S. Mortuaries-Redkey Chapel. Memorials may be made to the Redkey Nazarene Church Family Life Center.

Harold R. Smith, 61

MODOC, Ind. - Harold R. (Russ) Smith, 61, Modoc, died Monday in Ball Memorial Hospital, Muncie, after open-heart surgery. He was born in Muncie, attended city schools and graduated from Central High School. He was an inspector and later supervisor at Borg-Warner Automotive for 43 years before he retired 2 weeks ago.
          Mr Smith was a member and past master of Losantville Masonic Lodge 674, F & AM; was a firefighter for the Modoc Volunteer Fire Department; served 9 years in the Indiana National Guard, and was a firefighter on the safety crews at Winchester Speedway and Michigan International Speedway.
          Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Nancy Rees Smith; two sons, Rusty Smith and Randy Smith, both of Muncie; a stepdaughter, Jolanda Gillespie, Paxton, Ill.; three stepsons, Steve Fields, Terre Haute, Dennis Fields, Fort Bragg, N.C., and Martin Fields, New Castle; two sisters, Luella Hardiage, Carson, Calif., and Virginia Richardson, Mount Pleasant; a brother, James W. Smith, Muncie; five grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold W. and Leona Mae Gump Smith.
          Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Meeks Mortuary. Burial will be in Elm Ridge Cemetery. Calling will be 3-5 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary, where a Masonic memorial service will be at 8 p.m. Memorials may be sent to the Modoc Volunteer Fire Department, P.O Box 306, Modoc 47358.

Retired Farmer Is Dead At 75;
Rites Tuesday
----------
          Edward S. Smith, a 75-year0old retired Darke county farmer, passed away at 4:15 a.m. Sunday at his home on union City, route five, one and a-half miles east of Cosmos, following a several week's illness.
          A native of southern Ohio, he was born on January 9, 1871, son of Lewis A. and Christina Smith. He attended the Egypt school near Cosmos, and was married to Lola Funk in Greenville in 1918. Mr. Smith was a member of the Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren.
          Besides the widow, his immediate survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Willard Newbauer, of near Union City, and one brother, Ira Smith, of Lewisburg, Ohio.
          The remains have been taken to the Brooks and Sons funeral home in Union City where friends may call at any time. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. (EST) at the Pleasant Valley church with Rev. S.S. Blough in charge. Burial will be made in the Greenville cemetery.

Mrs. Lena Smith called by death
----------
          Mrs. Lena (Ritenhouse) Smith passed away Thursday of last week at her home on South West street following a lingering illness with tuberculosis. She was in her twentieth year and leaves a husband and one child. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at two o'clock by Rev. N.W. Gray. The remains were laid to rest in Fountain Park cemetery.

        SMITH, William W., s/o John and Anna (Wier) b. Crab Orchard, Tenn. Oct. 6, 1811-d. at Winch. June 4,1894 of the Flu ae 82y 7m 28d. Came with his parents when a small boy to Preble Co. OH and13 years later to Darke Co. OH. He was in the distilling business. Went to Ky. a short time, then to Richmond, Ind. Came to Winch. Mar. 3, 1834. He m. Louisa Eltzroth Nov.of 1840, the d/o Jacob and Eliz. (Neff) Eltzroth. He was elected constable in 1842. They had 11 children, 4 are dec'd. before his death and 2 in childhood. Surv. are W.R.and G.W., Mrs. A.E. Martin, and Mrs. N.E. Harter and Mrs. M.J. Jarrett. The June 6,1894 paper gives Wm. W. Smith says he m. Lizzie Eltzroth in 1844 and had 9 children. Surv. are the widow and 4 ch., 1 bro and 5 sis. Son is bur. at Fountain Pk. Cem.

She was a teacher. She m. Luther Smith, June 20,1891 at age 21y. They had a child b. May 26,1892.(Isabel) Lucinda d. Apr. 21, 1893 ae 26y of T.B. Surv.are the baby, her husband, father, 2 sis. and 5 bros. Luther C. Smith ae 31 s/o J.E. & Mary (Glover) Smith (d. rec. lists m. I. Putney. (Prob. bur. Fountain City).

        SMITH, Dr. Wm. Gray, b. near New Carlisle, OH Apr. 18, 1821-d. in Winch. IN Aug 7, 1892, ae 55y 3m 19d. He graduated from Med. College of Ohio in 1859. married Julia A. Lucas June of 1866. They had 3 children, 1 dt and 2 sons. He was the s/o Abram C. and Eliz. (Dill) 5mith both b. in Pa. He died of Angina Pectoria.

Hunt, He res. near Hamilton, OH until 1859 when he moved to R.C. (Prob. bur. at Huntsville Cem.).

        SMITH, Francis B., b. Burlington, N.J. July 15, 1821-d. Mar. 31, 1891 ae 69y 8m 16d in West River twp of pneumonia. He was the s/o Thomas and Mary (Meridith) Smith. Came with his parents to R.C. in 1839. He m. Margarette Stines in 1844 (m. rec. lists m. Mar. 19, 1854 Margaret H. Stines). They had 6 children 4 sons and 2 dts.,1 son and 2 dts, dec'd. He was a mem. of the145 Ind. Vol. (mil. rec. lists his d. and bur. in the Liberty cem. ae 70y.).
