RUSH COUNTY INGENWEB

Welcome to

Rush County, Indiana
Genealogy and History

a small part of the INGENWEB and USGENWEB Projects

In June 1996, a group of genealogists organized the Indiana Comprehensive Genealogy Database. The idea was to provide a single entry point for all counties in Indiana, where collected databases would be stored. In addition, the databases would be indexed and cross-indexed, so that even if an individual were found in more than one county, they could be located in the index.

At the same time, volunteers were found who were willing to coordinate the collection of databases and generally oversee the contents of the web page. Thanks to the previous County Coordinator Pam Steed for her contributions to the Rush County, Indiana Genealogy and History web site on the INGenWeb! This site is currently up for adoption. If you would like to host this county, please visit the INGenWeb Volunteer Opportunities web page.

In 1822 Rush County was carved out of the southern part of Delaware County, and Rushville was chosen as the county seat. The standard history of the county is Brant and Fuller, History of Rush County (Chicago, 1888). Townships in the county are Anderson, Center, Jackson, Noble, Orange, Posey, Richland, Ripley, Rushville, Union, Walker and Washington.Rush County was named in honor of Dr. Benjamin Rush, famed early American physician and signer of the Declaration of Independence.
