William Max Bastin, 74

William Max Bastin, 74, of Martinsville, died Monday, Sept. 30, 2002, at Morgan Hospital & Medical Center in Martinsville. Born Sept. 4, 1928, in Morgan County, Ind., he was the son of the late Earl Harvey Bastin and Ilagee (Bales) Bastin. On Nov. 30, 1946, he married Mary L. Briant; she survives. Mr. Bastin retired in 1990 after 17 years of service from Waverly Sand & Gravel. He had previously worked for the Indianapolis Public Schools, as well as the Metropolitan School District of Martinsville. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Max E. Bastin of Cape Coral, Fla., and Maurice D. Bastin of Martinsville; three daughters, Brenda Brittain of Martinsville, Wanda Buis of Tucson, Ariz., and Kitsy D. Carpenter of Paragon, Ind.; two brothers, Richard and Leon Bastin, both of Martinsville; three sisters, Genevieve Miller of Martinsville, Betty McGown of Belleville, Ind., and Lois Norman of Martinsville; and eight grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister and one granddaughter. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the New Life Christian Church in Paragon, with the Rev. Steve Brown officiating. Burial will follow in New South Park Cemetery in Martinsville. Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday at the church. Neal & Summers Mortuary is handling arrangements.
