John A. Hartley

John A. Hartley, 70, of Rushville and formerly of Arcadia, died Friday, Nov. 11, 2005.

Born Oct. 14, 1935, near Cicero, he was the son of Joe and Ruth (Wise) Hartley, both deceased. He married Melinda Kay Haley Aug. 12, 1995; she survives.

Mr. Hartley was a 1953 graduate of Walnut Grove High School and a 1965 graduate of the Indiana College of Mortuary. He farmed in his early life then became a funeral director and was the former owner of Hartley Funeral Homes in Cicero and Arcadia. After retiring he assisted his son at his business, 20/20 Excavating in Arcadia, and worked at Stewart Seed Company in Greensburg. He raised and bred Belgian draft horses. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Brookville and the Belgian Draft Horse BreederŐs Association. He served two four-year terms as a Hamilton County Commissioner.

Survivors in addition to his wife include two sons, Michael J. Hartley (and wife Robin) and Steven J. Hartley (and wife Dena), both of Arcadia; one sister, Mona J. (Mrs. Bob) Deel of Arcadia; two step daughters, Madelaine Przestwor and Mallory Gulley of Rushville; eight grandchildren; and mother- and father-in-law, Bill and Shirley Haley of Metamora.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hartley Funeral Home in Cicero with the Rev. Michael Holman officiating. Burial will follow in Arcadia Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Brookville, and from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hartley Funeral Home in Cicero. br>
