Zoar Cemetery

This cemetery is Located in Grass Township north of County Road 500N and 50 .

It is back a narrow lane near a large culvert. It is a old German Cemetary and in 1986 when Kris Manley and Sharon Patmore read the stones some were difficult to read due to weathering and because they are in German. The German Methodist Church was struck by lightening and burned.

In the Rockport Journal , Aug 20 1920 is a story of the electrical storm that stuck Zoar Evangelical Church and destroyed the building. The people in the neighborhood that ran to save the church were only able to save the organ and a few other articles. This church was built in 1881 and dedicated that Aug. It replaced a log church which was buildt in March of 1852. The church is almost a quarter of a mile from the state road and the site was selected before many of the public roads were established.
