STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, MARCH 28, 1877, p.3, c.1 ALANSON ABBEY, 16 Jan 1792 - 22 Mar 1877 Mr. Alanson Abbey, whose death occurred last Thursday, at the residence of his son, Mr. Jacob Abbey, near Pleasant Lake, in this county, was one of the old settlers--one of the pioneers, having emigrated from Ohio in 1838. He was born in the State of New York in 1792, from which State he removed to Ohio in 1819, in the 27th year of his age. He was a participant in the stirring events of the war of 1812. He has lived a life of modest usefulness, was a good citizen and worthy christian. He leaves a large circle of relatives and friends. The funeral services were held at Pleasant Lake, Saturday the 24th instant, Rev. W. P. Aylsworth, of this place, officiating. They are buried at Circle Hill Cemetery, Angola, Steuben County, Indiana. Alanson was the son of Joshua and Lydia Abbey. Lucy's parents may have been Jacob and Lucy (Thompson) Daggert, 1763 - 1839. Lucy is buried at Clark Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana. CHILDREN: Henrietta (Abbey), 10 Mar 1817 - 23 Mar 1893, in 1835 married Henry Bixler, 10 Feb 1812 - 14 Jan 1876. Henrietta is buried at Gilead, Branch County, Michigan. Henry's burial place unknown. Lucy Abbey, no further information. Jacob Daggett Abbey, 26 Oct 1823 - 10 Jan 1905 (Old Settlers Article), on 24 Dec 1848 married Eliza A. (Gilbert) Abbey, 24 Aug 1826 - 06 Nov 1915 (Old Settlers article). They are buried at Pleasant Lake Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana. Eliza was the daughter of Beladiah and Anna Gilbert. Nancy C. (Abbey) Gilbert, 07 Dec 1826 - 24 Mar 1893, on 04 Dec 1845 married Chauncey DePew Gilbert, 14 Jun 1821 - 17 Jan 1896. They are buried at Stevenson Cemetery, Xenia, Bourbon County, Kansas. Chauncey was the son of Samuel and Fannie (Crawford) Gilbert. They are buried at Clark Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana. Giles Thompson Abbey, 24 Nov 1827- 28 Apr 1921, on 24 Jul 1850 married his 1st wife, Martha A. (Long) Abbey, 09 May 1832 - 09 May 1864. They are buried at Circle Hill Cemetery. Martha was the daughter of James Long, 17 Feb 1800 - 27 Jul 1857, and his 1st wife, Martha (Guthrie) Long, 04 May 1804 - 16 Dec 1836. They are buried at Clark Cemetery. On 31 Mar 1867 (1866 ?) in DeKalb County, Indiana, Giles married his 2nd wife, Mrs. Lurene (Howe) Davis who died in 1882, widow of Joseph D. Davis of Auburn. Her burial place is unknown. In 1885, he married his 3rd wife, Sophronia (Holmes) McEntarffer, widow of Anthony McEntarffer. Sophronia died 17 Feb 1909. Her burial place is unknown. George Joshua Abbey, 13 Oct 1829 - 07 Apr 1907, on 19 Oct 1851, married his 1st wife, Violetta J. (George) Abbey, daughter of Jeremiah and Marietta George. His 2nd wife was Lucinda (Smart) Abbey. George is buried at Bronson, Bourbon County, Kansas. Violetta and Lucinda's burial places are unknown. TWIN, Minerva L. (Abbey) George Cole, 14 Jun 1833 - 29 Nov 1868, on 27 Aug 1851, married her 1st husband, Porter A. George who died 16 Jun 1857. They are buried at Clark Cemetery. Her 2nd husband was H. Cole, no further information. TWIN, Harvey Abbey, 14 Jun 1833, no further information. ALLISON MARRIED 2nd, Mary (Boyce) Abbey who died in 1842 or 1843. No further information.
