STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 7, 1903, page 1, column 7 JOHN BAILEY, 08 Oct 1830 - 30 Sep 1903 Last Wednesday morning at 9 o'clock, John Bailey fell from an apple tree striking on his head, causing concussion of the brain, from which he died at 12 o'clock, noon, of the same day. John Bailey, oldest son of Michael and Catherine Bailey, was born in Daulphin county, Pennsylvania, Oct. 8, 1830, departed this life Sep. 30, 1903. The deceased moved to Indiana in 1845. At the age of twenty one he returned to Pennsylvania, where he remained six years. He was married in 1864 to Jane B. Dygert. To this union were born two daughters, Lucy, who died at the age of six months, and Ida, who survives him. He leaves a wife, one daughter and one brother, besides other relatives and many friends to mourn the sudden and untimely death of one of nature's noble men. Mr. Bailey was a kind husband and father, never speaking a cross word in his family and always ministering to their wants with a generous hand. As a friend and neighbor he was ever ready to lend a helping hand. As a man he was honored by all who knew him. The funeral was held at the home Oct 2, at 2 o'clock p.m. by Rev. T. L. Dyer, after which the remains were laid at rest in the Fremont cemetery. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: John Bailey, 08 Oct 1830 - 30 Sep 1903, married Jane B. (Dygert) Bailey 16 Feb 1844 - 23 Mar 1906, daughter of Abraham Dygert and his 1st wife, Abigail (Barnes) Dygert. Abraham's 2nd wife was Elizabeth (Young) Dygert. John's parents were Michael Bailey, 13 Jan 1805 - 27 Feb 1890, and Catharine (Weaver) Bailey, 04 Oct 1802 - 22 Jan 1872. Michael and Catharine are buried at Lakeside Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana. DAUGHTERS: Lucy Ann Bailey, 14 Dec 1865 - 26 May 1866, buried at Lakeside Cemetery. Ida T. (Bailey) Hall, 1869 - 22 Oct 1943, married Earl L. Hall, 1866 - 1942, buried at Lakeside Cemetery.
