STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 19, 1904, page 1, column 6 JULIUS BALL, 30 Sep 1820 - 12 Oct 1904 Julius Ball, son of Gideon and Lyda(sic) Dodge Ball, was born in Ontario county, New York, Sept. 30, 1820, and died at his home west of Pleasant Lake, Ind., Oct. 12th, 1904, aged 84 years and 12 days. Mr. Ball came with his parents and other members of the family, to Steuben county in 1836, having previously lived for four years in Sandusky county, Ohio. He was married to Lucy Tuttle, Jan. 16th, 1859. Three sons were born to them - Ford, who died July 9, 1886, and Claud and Grant who survive him. Besides his faithful wife and two sons, there are living of his immediate family, two brothers - Augustus Ball, of Pleasant Lake, and Frank Ball, of Oregon. Since August 24, 1890, Mr. Ball has been a faithful member of the Pleasant Lake Baptist church. He was a quiet and unassuming man, yet a man of worth. Although he had been ailing for some weeks before his death, he was seemingly better, being able to go about the house and attend to some light work out of doors. On Wednesday morning, Oct. 12, he seemingly fell asleep in his chair while reading, and never awakened. The funeral was conducted from the Baptist church on Friday, Oct. 14, Rev. S. L. They are buried at Pleasant Lake Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana. Julius was the son of Gideon Ball, 27 Dec 1785 - Jul 1870, and Lydia (Dodge) Ball, 06 July 1794 - 01 Jan 1857. Although there is no mention in "Cemeteries of Steuben County, Indiana, 1990" by Audree Seibel Lewis of Gideon and Lydia being buried in Steuben County, on page 81, there is an unnamed BALL buried at Pleasant Lake Cemetery with these remarks: "MY MOTHER, D. MAY 20, 1836, AE 80 YEARS- THIS TABLET PLACED BY HER SON, GIDEON BALL." Additional note: This is the FIRST BURIAL in this cemetery. This Gideon Ball was born Dec. 27, 1785, at Granville, Mass., and died on July ___ 1870." From information gleaned from www.familysearch.com, this is Lydia (Brockway) Ball, born 17 Apr 1760 in Lyme, New London, CT, and died 26 May 1846 in Pleasant Lake, Steuben County, Indiana. Julius married 2nd, on 16 Jan 1859, Lucy A. (Tuttle), 09 Sep 1829 - 30 Jun 1905. She is buried at Pleasant Lake Cemetery. CHILDREN OF 2ND MARRIAGE: Charles Ford Ball, 30 Nov 1859 - 09 Jul 1886, buried at Pleasant Lake Cemetery. Gideon Grant Ball, 1864 - 11 Apr 1905, on 17 Mar 1888, married Elva M. (West) Ball, no dates available. Gideon is buried at Pleasant Lake Cemetery. Elva's burial place unknown. Claude Carl Ball, 1866 - 1932, on 12 Nov 1896, married Estella May (Clark) Ball, 1874 - 1966. They are buried at O-HUD Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana. SIBLINGS OF JULIUS: Sheldon Xavier Ball, born 25 Jan 1815 at Seneca, Ontario, NY. Died 20 Jan 1877. Lucy Ann Ball, born and died on 08 Oct 1816 in Seneca, Ontario. NY. Augustus Virgillius Ball, born 24 May 1818, in Ontario, NY. Died 14 May 1907 at Pleasant Lake, Steuben County, Indiana. He married Emeline (Stettler) Ball, 21 Jul 1842 - 09 Aug 1909, daughter of William and Sarah (Reber) Stettler. Augustus and Emeline are buried at Pleasant Lake Cemetery. Edwin Ball, born about 1822 in Seneca, Ontario, NY and died 19 Jul 1839 in Otsego, Steuben County, Indiana. Franklin Ball, born 03 May 1825 in Seneca, Seneca, Ontario, NY. Died 04 Feb 1906 in Douglas, Oregon. Charlotte Marie Ball, born 19 May 1828 in Seneca, Seneca, Ontario, NY. Demia Almeda Ball, born 01 Jan 1831 in Seneca, Seneca, Ontario, NY.
