STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, APRIL 27, 1904, page 1, column 6 SIDNEY (SLAYBAUGH) BARBER, 06 Jun 1834 - 16 Apr 1904 Sidney Slaybaugh was born June 6, 1834, in Adams county, Pennsylvania, and died at her home near Orland, Ind., April 16, 1904, age 69 years, 10 months and 10 days. In October, 1848, she moved with her parents, Leonard and Hannah Slaybaugh, to Steuben county, Ind., and has lived here ever since. On November 5, 1859, she was united in marriage to Wm. Barber, who survives her. To them were born eight children, five of whom are living and were with her at the time of her death. When a young girl she united with the Disciple church and on moving to Orland, transferred her membership to the Congregational church of that place in which she was an active worker until her health failed her. For many years she was a partial invalid, but during her affliction she trusted in God's mercy and received great comfort from her religion. She was a faithful wife, a devoted mother, always a kind and obliging neighbor ready to minister to the sick or those in need at all times. She leaves a husband, five children, two grandchildren, one sister and five brothers and a large circle of friends to mourn their loss. The funeral services were held at home Monday April 18, 1904, conducted by Rev. C. W. Long. Interment in the Green Lawn cemetery.
