STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 23, 1903, page 1, column 4 DORA (WICKMAM) BARNES, 01 Mar 1854 - 13 Sep 1903 Dora Wickman was born at Gratz, Germany, March 1, 1854, and was married to Marcus Barnes, Sept. 26, 1890, and died at her home at Hogback lake, Steuben county, Ind., Sept. 13, 1903, of paralysis, aged 49 years, 6 months and 18 days. She leaves a husband, one sister and a host of friends to mourn their loss. She was a member of the U. B. church and loyally served her Master, and has gone to dwell with Him. Funeral services were held at the home Sunday afternoon, Sept. 20, conducted by Rev. C. K. Stockwell, of the Congregational church, Angola, and after the large company of friends and relatives had taken the farewell look at all that was mortal, her remains were tenderly laid to rest in the Mt. Zion cemetery. ADDITONAL INFORMATION: Dora (Wickman) Barnes, 01 Mar 1854 - 13 Sep 1903, on 26 Sep 1890, married Marcus H. Barnes, 1853 - 1918. They are buried at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana. The information in the Cemetery Book is not too clear. No children are listed in Dora's obituary but the Cemetery book states that Maude B. (Barnes) Mills, 1876 - 1960 married George M. Mills, 1872 - 1948. Her mother is listed as Dora Wihelmina Frederika Henrietta Sofia Wiegmann Barnes. She cannot be Dora's daughter because Dora did not marry Marcus until 1890. Mary Melissa (Beck) Barnes is listed as having married Marcus H. Barnes on 31 Jan 1875 in Indiana. Maude was born in 1876 so it would fit in that Mary Melissa was the 1st wife of Marcus. The Cemetery book states Mary died 12 Feb 1889, aged 81 or 87 years, 10 months and 2 days. It most likely should be aged 31 or 37 years. Marcus would then have married Dora 1« years after Mary's death. Not being a child of Dora, Mary would not necessarily be listed as a survivor.
