STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 1, 1899, page 1, column 5 ELMUS L. BARRON, 14 Feb 1823 - 25 Jan 1899 At the home of his daughter, Mrs. John B. Allman, in Richland township, Steuben county, Indiana, January 25, 1899, Elmus L. Barron, aged 75 years, 11 months and 11 days. Mr. Barron was born Feb. 14, 1823, in Littletown, Grafton county, New Hampshire, and when nine years of age he removed with his parents to Sandusky county, Ohio, and in April, 1839, came to Steuben county, Indiana, spending the summer at Orland, then known as Vermont settlement. In November following they removed to Metz in York township where he was joined in marriage with Roxana A., daughter of David and Emily Benjamin. To their union were born ten children, six dying at an early age. The four living are Alcinus, Fayette, Evelyn, now Mrs. Allman, of Metz, and Ashley Barron, of Angola. In the year 1886, Mr. and Mrs. Barron removrd to Whitney, Dawes county, Nebraska, where on Feb. 10, 1893, Mrs. Barron was called from this world of trouble to her home of rest. Mr. Barron and his son Ashley returned to Metz in the fall of 1893, since which time he has made his home with his daughter. He was the last of a family of four children who came here in 1836, and endured the hardships incident to pioneer life. He will be remembered by his friends principally for his great musical talent which he was ever willing to use for the pleasure of others. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Elmus L. Barron was the son of LaFayette and Arvilla (Bradford) Barron. He married Roxana A. (Benjamin) Barron, 1830 -1893. Children: Menzo Barron, 18447 - 1849, aged 1 year 10 months. Lucian Barron, 1851 - 1851, aged 3 months. Alcinus Barron, 1852-1920, married Annetta (Dalley) Barron, 1850-1934. Fayette Barron, 1854 - 1945, married Kesiah (Tillotson) Barron, 1859 - 1927. Edme, 1856 - 1856, aged 6 months.
