KAY LASH COLLECTION, CARNEGIE PUBLIC LIBRARY, ANGOLA, STEUBEN COUNTY, INDIANA PHOEBE T. (TEETERS) BATTERSHELL, 15 Apr 1820 - 10 Jun 1913 PHOEBE TEETERS Daughter of Wm. And Martha Teeters, was born April 15, 1820, at Albany, Columbiana county, Ohio, and passed away June 10, 1913, at her home in Hudson, Indiana, aged 93 years, 1 month and 26 days. She was married to John Battershall(sic) in 1837. Four sons and three daughters came to bless this union. She was left a widow in 1865, her husband and three children having preceded her to the spirit world at their former home in Alliance, Ohio. The same year she with her four remaining children left their beautiful home and came to Indiana and settled on a farm one mile from Hudson, living in a log cabin and enduring the hardships of early days. Her son William passed away in 1885, and her daughter Martha in 1912. She was a member of a family of eleven children, and is the last one to depart this life. She leaves to mourn one daughter, one son, two grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. She united with the United Brethren church in her girlhood days, and has been a faithful and consistent member ever since. Through all her intense suffering, she realized it was only the body, and her faith in the Infinite God sustained her every day along her journey of life. She is now with her Savior, face to face with those she loved, once more. Funeral services were held at the U. B. church, Thursday at 2 p.m., conducted by Rev. Weimer, assisted by Rev. Clyde Dole. Burial at Circle Cemetery. NOTE: Her last name is spelled Battershall in some records and Battershell in others. In Mrs. Audree Seibel Lewis' "Cemeteries of Steuben County, Indiana, 1990" it is handwritten "BATTERSHELL" so I am spelling it that way, per M.H.B.
