STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, JULY 28, 1897, page 4, column 4 GEORGE W. BECHTOL (Reverend), about 03 Oct 1836 - 28 Jun 1897 Died, at his home at Metz, Indiana, June 28, 1897, Rev. George W. Bechtol, aged 60 years, 5 months and 25 days. Deceased was born in Massilon, Ohio, and became a member of the North Ohio conference of the United Brethren church in 1869, and after traveling as a supply until 1872, he was assigned to Fremont mission, and ever afterwards he received work from the annual conference. He was a good preacher, an excellent singer and in revival work had but few equals. When pastor of Mt. Pleasant circuit eighteen years ago he so greatly loved the people and admired the country that he resolved go to obtain a home and last resting place among them. The desire was granted and his remains now sleep in Mt. Pleasant cemetery near Metz to await the resurrection of those who have done good. He was a member of the 38th Ohio regiment during the war.
